The Healthiest Fast Food Meals at The Drive-Thru

It’s National Drive Thru day today and for those of you who enjoy the convenience of fast food but worry about expanding waist lines, here are 9 lower-calorie fast food items to choose from!  With many chain stores doling out healthier options, it’s easier than ever to choose meals more wisely.

Granted, taking into account the sodium content and portion size of these meals, you still shouldn’t be having them every day, but they’re just about as guilt-free as fast food gets!

McDonalds Grilled Chicken Snack Wrap (w/ Honey Mustard or Chipotle BBQ Sauce)
260 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 820 mg of sodium
As lovingly described by McDonalds, these snack wraps consist of “plump and juicy grilled chicken, bathed in the deep heat of chipotle BBQ sauce, held in the tight embrace of a flour tortilla.” You might feel guilty reading its description, but you’ll feel just fine eating it.

McDonalds Asian Salad With Grilled Chicken
300 calories, 10 grams of fat, and 890 mg of sodium
Enjoy snow peas, mandarin oranges, almonds, and edamame on a bed of fresh greens with Newman’s Own® tasty low-fat sesame ginger dressing.  With just around 300 calories, this is one of the healthier premium fast food salad options out there!

Jack in the Box Chicken Fajita Pita (w/no salsa)
280 calories, 9 grams of fat, 1,110 mg sodium
The chicken fajita pita includes warm pita bread filled with grilled chicken pieces, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, grilled onions, and tomato. Forgoing the salsa brings the calorie count down to 280!  This dish has a fairly high sodium content, but hey – if you have the urge for Jack in the Box, you can still cut calories!

KFC Honey BBQ Sandwich
310 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 780 mg sodium
In this calorie-modest KFC creation, tender chicken is coupled with a tangy-sweet hickory-flavored Honey BBQ sauce and served on a soft, sweet Hawaiian bread bun. With only 310 calories and a comparatively more reasonable 780mg of sodium, this is a fairly guiltless menu option.

Carl’s Jr Charbroiled Chicken Salad (w/low-fat Balsamic Dressing)

295 calories, 8.5 grams of fat, 1,190 mg sodium
This filling salad includes grilled chicken, croutons, red onions, shredded cheese, wedge tomatoes and sliced cucumbers on a bed of mixed greens.  If you choose the low-fat balsamic dressing, this simple salad comes out to around 300 calories.

Carl’s Jr Charbroiled BBQ Chicken Sandwich
390 calories, 7 grams of fat, 1,150 mg sodium
With just under 400 calories, this is the least calorie-conscious item on the list.  It includes a charbroiled chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, and a tangy barbeque sauce on a tasty honey wheat bun.  This is a good healthier sandwich choice for fast food.

Chick-fil-a Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich

290 calories, 4 grams of fat, 1030 mg sodium
This sandwich includes a tender breast of grilled chicken, marinated in special seasonings and served on a toasted golden wheat bun with dill pickle chips, green leaf lettuce, and tomato. If you don’t add the sauce on (which comes on the side), you can save 20 calories and 90 mg of sodium.

Wendy’s Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich
360 calories, 7 grams of fat, 1,110 mg sodium
Wendy’s ultimate chicken grill includes a tender grilled whole spiced chicken breast fillet topped with a delicious honey mustard sauce, tomatoes, and crisp lettuce.  As with any one of these sandwiches, you can hold the mayo to give yourself an even more guilt-free treat.

Taco Bell Fresco Style Steak Burrito Supreme

340 calories, 8 grams of fat, 1,100 mg sodium
With Taco Bell’s fresco style options, they hold off on the sour cream and shredded cheese.  With the steak burrito supreme, you get a soft flour tortilla wrapped around carne asada steak, beans, crisp shredded lettuce, diced onions, ripe tomatoes, fiesta salsa, and topped with a tangy red sauce.

If these primarily chicken-options don’t feed your need for fast food, these other options are also fairly calorie-friendly: an original McDonalds hamburger (260 calories, 9 grams of fat), a McDonalds Egg McMuffin (300 calories, 12 grams of fat), a Pizza Hut “Fit n Friendly” Chicken and Veggie Pizza (2 slices are 340 calories, 9 grams of fat), or Jr Hamburger options at various fast food stops (usually 250-400 calories).
